According to statistics from the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), the national positive rate for Covid-19 has surpassed three percent in the last 24 hours with over 168 new cases, the largest level since September 2022.

Two significant cities, Karachi and Islamabad, have positivity rates that are higher than 5% and 6%, respectively.

Although the officials recognized the increase in instances, they stated that the pattern was not alarming.

According to NCOC member Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan, the virus’ new alterations have caused an upsurge in cases. Because the fatality rate of the new strain was so low, he said, “People shouldn’t panic.”

The nationwide positivity rate was 3.02 percent, while rates in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and other cities were 6.11, 5.51, 3.99, and 2.61 percent, respectively, according to NCOC statistics. One fatality has also been recorded in the previous 24 hours.

The virus situation was “under control” last week, according to Minister of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination Abdul Qadir Patel, who also urged people not to believe reports.

The minister said that “the government had strengthened the function of Border and Health Services to deal with any sub-variant of Covid-19.”He also said that all entry points have surveillance systems installed, and all arriving passengers are subject to quick screenings at all airports.
