2,000-year-old roman statue discovered in Spain’s Alicante coast

A 2,000-year-old Roman-era marble statue has been discovered on the coast of Alicante, Spain, during construction work. According to British media reports, the ancient statue was uncovered during excavation work for construction at the famous Al Marbaba beach in Spain. Initially, it was thought to be just a regular piece of stone.

Later, archaeologists confirmed that it is a Roman-era statue preserved since the 2nd century AD. Experts in archaeology stated that only a small part of the statue’s nose is damaged while the rest of the sculpture remains in excellent condition.

They further added that this discovery is one of the most significant finds in recent years in Alicante and it will help shed light on the region’s ancient history.

Preliminary archaeological assessments suggest that the white marble statue may represent the Roman goddess Venus.
