24pc rise in militant attacks recorded in April: report

Majority of the attacks took place in the erstwhile FATA followed by main Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan

Pakistan recorded a 24 per cent increase in militant attacks during the month of April as compared to the previous month.

According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), militants conducted 34 attacks in which 55 people were killed. This includes 34 security forces personnel, 13 civilians and eight militants. At least 25 people were injured which includes 11 security personnel and 14 civilians. 26 attacks were carried out by militants across the country in March 2022. 115 people were killed in these attacks while 288 were injured.

A majority of these attacks took place in the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas followed by main Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

PICSS recorded 16 militant attacks in FATA during which 31 people were killed. This includes 21 security personnel, seven militants and three civilians. 10 people injured which includes six security personnel and four civilians.

In KP, 10 attacks were carried out killing 17 people while six were injured. In Balochistan, one security official and one civilian were killed in four militant attacks whereas five people were injured. In Sindh, militants carried out four attacks killing four civilians and one militant. No incident took place in Punjab during the month.

In response, security forces conducted 22 operations against militants during which 11 suspected militants were detained and 27 were killed.
