The meteorology agency for Taiwan reported that a 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit its eastern coast on Thursday, causing shaking in the capital Taipei.

The quake hit just after midday (0400 GMT) about 30 kilometres (19 miles) off the Coast of Hualien County at a shallow depth of six kilometres.

Currently, there are no immediate reports of damage or causalities.

The bureau stated that the quake occurred at a depth of 5.7km or 3.5 miles.

Whereas, the US Geological Survey recorded a lower measurement of 5.9 magnitudes and a depth of 12 kilometres.

Due to its location close to the meeting point of two tectonic plates, Taiwan experiences earthquakes frequently.

The witness of the event stated that the shaking in the capital was less intense than previous earthquakes this year.
