6.3 magnitude earthquake jolts Islamabad, Punjab

Quake was 150 km deep with epicenter in Tajikistan, Pakistan Meteorological Department

A 6.3 magnitude earthquake shook certain Islamabad, Punjab and neighboring areas on Sunday afternoon.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has reported that the earthquake was 150 km deep and the location of its epicenter was in Tajikistan. The quake happened at 12:54 and was located at 38.65 North, 69.65 East longitude.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center also verified that Attock city experienced an earthquake.

Initial reports indicated that the earthquake had not caused any reported damage. Also there were no reports of casualties.

Rawalpindi, Murree and other regions of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa experienced earthquake tremors.

People exited their homes while reciting ‘Kalma-e-Tayyaba’ to quell the tremors.

According to reports, numerous nearby countries including Iran, India and other territories also experienced strong earthquake tremors.
