Unidentified individuals abducted six football players in the Jani Bair region of Dera Bugti district last Saturday. According to officials, the players were taken while en route from Dera Bugti to Sibi.
The players hailed from Dera Bugti and Sui and were headed to Sibi to participate in the qualifying round of the All Pakistan Chief Minister Gold Cup football tournament, as confirmed by Dera Bugti’s deputy commissioner.
Official sources revealed that armed assailants halted the vehicles carrying the players near the Kachhi canal in the Jani Bair area of Dera Bugti, forcibly taking them at gunpoint. Among the abducted players, five have been identified as Aamir Bugti, Faisal Bugti, Sohail Bugti, Yasar Bugti, and Sheraz Bugti.
Balochistan’s interim home minister, Mir Zubair Ahmed Jamali, stated that security forces were swiftly dispatched to the area to initiate a search and rescue operation for the kidnapped footballers.
Interim Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti, in a late-night statement to Geo News, disclosed that plans were underway to recover the players but refrained from sharing specific details. He mentioned that teams from the Frontier Corps, deputy commissioner’s office, commissioner’s office, and Levies Force were collaborating to track down the suspects.
