ATC discharges journalist Siddique Jan

Time was given for distinction between journalist and terrorist, judge responds to Police on remand extension plea

Journalist Siddique Jan has been discharged by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) today.

According to media reports, the imprisoned journalist was brought before the court where his attorney Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq argued that Siddique Jan had no bearing on the prosecution’s case.

In the meantime, the police demanded that the journalist be detained for five days.

“We are seeking for remand because we need to transport him to Lahore,” the Police added.

The judge responded by saying that the time was given to define the distinction between a journalist and a terrorist.

The court then granted an exemption to Siddique Jan in the case.

Earlier, Siddique Jan was detained outside the Bol News office in Islamabad. The Islamabad Police only made the arrest public after almost 17 hours.
