Advocate Supreme Court Shahzad Shaukat appointed as AG Punjab

Newly appointed Governor Punjab Balighur Rehman has appointed senior advocate of Supreme Court, Shahzad Shaukat, as the advocate general of Punjab on Wednesday.

According to the notification issued by the province’s Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department, the governor has appointed Shahzad Shaukat as advocate general of Punjab, with immediate effect in the public interest on terms and conditions.

The post became vacant after Ahmad Awais tendered his resignation. While issuing another notification, the department removed Ahmad Awais with immediate effect.

According to media reports, the government of Punjab had already stopped Awais from appearing in the courts on its behalf. Awais was refusing to quit the office and also approached the Lahore High Court when the provincial government stopped him from his work.

As soon as the president approved the appointment of Balighur Rehman as the governor of the province, Awais presented his resignation.
