Afghan Taliban to ban TikTok and PUBG

The Afghan Taliban have announced to ban TikTok and PUBG in the country within 90 days.

According to media reports, popular video sharing and gaming applications will be banned in Afghanistan after three months, according to an announcement by the Taliban-led telecommunication department.

Khaama Press has reported that the ban on the two popular applications was announced during a meeting between the security sector representatives and the representatives of the Sharia law enforcement administration.

A ban has already been imposed by the Taliban on more than 23 million websites for displaying immoral content.

Telecommunication and internet service providers have been directed to follow the guidelines strictly within the stipulated time.

According to different media reports, the Afghan Taliban have so far pledged women’s rights, freedom of media and amnesty for government officials.

However, the current rulers of the war torn country have been under criticism after they contradicted the public promises by ordering women to stay at home. Teenage girls have been stopped from going to schools. Mainstream and social media has been restricted as well.

TikTok and PUBG are among the mobile applications that have been popular among Afghans. Due to the bans on various websites, they are already without many entertainment venues.
