All 33 suspects nominated in Khanewal lynching case arrested

A major development has been made in the Tulamba tragedy, as Khanewal police have arrested all the accused nominated in a case pertaining to the lynching of a mentally challenged man.

A police spokesman said that 33 accused named in the FIR had been arrested while with the help of videos, in addition to five main characters. The total number of accused in the main roles has risen to 38. Police have so far arrested a total of 119 suspects whose role is being determined.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and IG Rao Sardar had given the task to the Multan RPO and Khanewal DPO to arrest all main suspects at the earliest.

A peace walk was organised by Khanewal police in the wake of the Talamba tragedy. The legal community and journalists attended the walk. The participants of the walk were carrying banners inscribed with slogans urging people to follow religious practices and maintain law and order. The police spokesperson said that more arrests were expected soon, and that there was no room for extremism and violence in Islam. Local bar’s President Rao Muhammad Amir Advocate and General Secretary Altaf Hussain Bhatti, in a joint statement, said that Islam is a religion of peace, so murder was a great crime in Islam. The members of the peace committee said that the establishment of peace was the responsibility of every citizen. They said Islam does not allow anyone to be harmed without any reason. In the wake of Talamba tragedy, the police took timely and effective measures to reduce the seriousness of the incident, they said while appreciating the services of the police.

They strongly condemned the incident and said that such elements did not deserve any pardon for taking the law into their own hands. After the peace walk by the police, candles were lit to express solidarity with the victim, Mushtaq.
