Director and journalist Fayyaz Adrees is working on a unique film called “Shams-e-Rumi”. The project will be based on the idea behind a highly popular quote by the mystic Maulana Jalal-ud-Din Rumi that goes like:
“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right doing,
There is a field. I’ll meet you there.”
The quote is known for incorporating the concept of a mystic’s love for the divine, which goes to the extent of blurring all kinds of worldly boundaries and meets the deity at a level where terms like “good” and “bad” that mean specific things, stop mattering. Quoted quite often, these lines have been considered the most apt way of describing the friendship between Sufis and God, which succeeds in reaching a stage where fixed notions disappear and all that is left to relish is the endless love between God and his creation, the kind of love in which God only loves and forgives.
The film too, as the director tells Minute Mirror, will be based on spiritual love, the kind that has been propagated by Shams Tabriz and his pupil, Maulana Jalal-ud-Din Rumi. According to him:
“Based on the supernatural life, poetry and philosophy of Shamz Tabriz and his brilliant disciple, Maulana Jalal-ud-Din Rumi, this feature film will go “beyond the ideas of wrongdoing and right doing” in order to widen the horizon of the perspective itself, which this quote entails. Transcending borders and ethnic divisions (which is the Sufi notion of love), the film will be a mystical adventure that will seep into your very soul.”
To add to the already exciting news, it is Amjad Islam Amjad, the notable poet and screenwriter, who has penned the script for the film.
The idea for “Shams-e-Rumi” was conceived by Nadir Tareen and Mahvash Khan who are the project’s producers.
“The cast of the film will be revealed soon,” tells the director, Fayyaz Adrees. “It is being made under the banner of Soul Films and has been beautifully scripted by Amjad Islam Amjad sahib. I plan to release the film in the year 2022 across the world.”
