Another gold opportunity as wrestler Muhammad Sharif reaches final of 74kg freestyle wrestling

Wrestler Muhammad Sharif Tahir advanced to the finals of the 74-kilogram freestyle division at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday, raising expectations for another gold for his nation.

He defeated Cole Hawkins of New Zealand 11-0 with a triumph of technical superiority.
He will compete for the gold medal today against Naveen of India. The game is set to start between 9 and 11:30 p.m.

Nooh Dastagir Butt broke the Commonwealth Games record earlier this week, winning a gold medal for Pakistan.

The gold medal was won by Butt on the sixth day of competition in Birmingham, the 23-year-old improving on his bronze at the previous Games in Australia’s Gold Coast four years prior.

He had made it clear that he intended to win the gold medal from the beginning of the men’s +109 kg weightlifting final when he was dominant in the scratch, lifting 170 kg on his first try and then raising it to 173 kg on his second.

Judoka Shah Hussain had won bronze in the men’s -90kg division at the Coventry Stadium hours earlier, putting Pakistan on the medals board for the first time.

The 29-year-old Shah Hussain, a descendant of the renowned Pakistani boxer Hussain Shah, defeated South African Thomas-Laszlo Breytenbach by ippon in their bronze-medal match.
