Another Indian soldier has committed suicide in Ganderbal district of the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The latest suicide has made the count of Indian soldiers dying of suicide to 559 since January 2007.

In the latest incident, a soldier of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) ended his life by shooting himself. He had used his service rifle for killing himself in the Dignibal area of the Ganderbal district.

Indian Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik has said in 2019 while speaking to the Lok Sabha, the lower house, that there were 95 cases of suicide among the Indian army, navy and air force personnel. He had also told that the most number was reported in the army and that was 73.

According to reports, 107 cases of suicide were reported in 2018 and 103 were reported in 2017.

Possible institutional deficiencies and ill-treatment at the workplace have been blamed as the reasons for stress and trauma that led to suicidal deaths, according to experts.

Experts have also stated that the tendencies of suicide were high in the combat zones, especially in IIOJK. They have blamed poor leadership and attitude of senior officers along with denial of leave as the reasons of the suicides.
