Army chief’s appointment is sensitive, PM to decide as per Constitution, Ahsan Iqbal

Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has said that the appointment of the army chief was a sensitive issue and that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will decide on the appointment as per Constitution

Speaking at a TV channel talk show he said that Imran Khan has been trying to make the appointment controversial. He also said that Shehbaz Sharif has made difficult decisions for the betterment of the country.

The federal minister said that there should not be made any speculations as the PM will decide as procedure. He said that PM could consult the federal cabinet over the matter if he deems the requirement.

Iqbal said that the procedure for the army chief’s appointment has been laid down in the constitution according to which the Defence Ministry will send names to the PM and he will decide on one name. He also said that the PM will consult the defence ministry after returning to the country.

He asked about the merit on which Imran Khan had appointed Usman Buzdar as chief minister of Punjab, the largest province. He also targeted Imran by saying that Imran has now appointed the CM to the person whom he had called the biggest thief and the person to whom he wasn’t going to appoint a gatekeeper was appointed as interior minister in PTI’s government.
