Around 4,000 minors abused in 2022, report

In Pakistan, a total of 4,253 incidences of child sexual assault were reported in 2022, according to the “Cruel Number” report put together by Sahil, an NGO against the practice.

These incidents of child sexual assault were reported from all four provinces of Pakistan, including Gilgit Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) (GB).

According to the data, there were 4,253 documented cases in total, including child marriages, kidnappings, and sexual abuse of children. According to statistics, Pakistan has an estimated 12 or more molested children every day.

The gender gap reveals that 2,325 (55%) of the recorded cases of child abuse included females, whereas 1,928 (45%) involved boys.

Also, the data shows that compared to 2021, there has been a rise in child sexual abuse instances of more than 33%.

The reported cases of sexual abuse this year can be divided into four main categories: abduction (1,656 children), rape (422 children), sodomy (537 children), gang rape (75 children), and gang sodomy (156 children).

Both genders were equally harmed in a total of 2,123 cases of child sexual abuse. In addition, 81 cases in total reported homicide occurring after sexual abuse.

Moreover, 1,834 of the reported incidents involved abduction, and 178 of those cases involved sexual abuse that occurred after the abduction.

One of the countless occurrences was the murder of 5 boys and 5 females following gang sodomy and rape. Also, in the incidents that were recorded in 2022, 39 boys and 29 girls were murdered after experiencing sexual abuse.

The records show that 428 instances of missing children in total have been recorded. 46 child marriage cases were documented, with 45 of them involving girls and 1 involving a boy.

Moreover, 3 instances of Vani (forced child marriage as a form of punishment) were reported.

A total of 546 children were abused in their own houses, 833 at the abuser’s house, 24 in a haveli, 55 in a madrasa, 29 at work, and 713 in public areas such as fields, streets, cemeteries, canals, and forests.
