Aseefa discusses Britain’s support for Sindh government

Ewan Harris, the Deputy Political Counsellor and Head of Strategic Engagement and Understanding at the British High Commission, met with Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari at Bilawal House in Karachi. During the meeting, Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari discussed Britain’s support for the government of Sindh in the areas of education and health, including the most recent assistance provided for post-flood rehabilitation initiatives in the province. Mr. Ewan Harris, accompanied by Deputy Director Zehra Batool, was briefed on the Sindh Government’s post-flood response, specifically the Sindh Peoples Housing for the Flood Affectees initiative, which aims to provide coverage for 2 million families whose homes were either partly or fully damaged in the province. Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari inaugurated the Housing Scheme during a conference on “Resilient Sindh from Pledges to Reconstruction” on February 8 in Karachi. The conference, co-hosted by the United Nations Development Program and the Government of Sindh, also launched a pilot program for direct cash transfer for the reconstruction of the homes of flood affectees. During the meeting, the active and dynamic role of Chairman PPP and Foreign Minister, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, was appreciated. His tireless and committed service in presenting and lobbying a strong case for Pakistan, mobilized international support during and after the devastating rains and floods, culminating with the International Donor Conference held last month in Geneva, where $10 billion was pledged for Pakistan’s post-flood rehabilitation plan.
