Asim Munir arrives in Tehran for mediation talks on regional peace

Tehran: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in Tehran on Friday as part of ongoing diplomatic and mediation efforts aimed at regional stability, according to official sources.

Upon arrival, he was warmly received by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, while Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was also present at the reception.

Security sources said the visit is focused on discussions related to regional peace, the evolving security situation, and diplomatic engagement surrounding US-Iran relations.

During the visit, Field Marshal Munir is expected to hold meetings with senior Iranian leadership and other key officials to exchange views on matters of mutual interest, including de-escalation efforts and broader regional stability.

The visit comes at a time when international stakeholders, including a Qatari delegation reportedly working in coordination with the United States, are also engaged in diplomatic efforts in Tehran aimed at facilitating a possible agreement and easing tensions.

Qatar, which has previously played a mediating role in regional conflicts, has re-engaged in discussions alongside other diplomatic channels to support negotiations.

Officials noted that Pakistan continues to play a constructive role in encouraging dialogue and peaceful resolution of disputes in the region.

Field Marshal Munir had also recently visited Iran, where he held high-level meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and other senior officials. Those discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties and promoting long-term regional peace.

According to military sources, Pakistan has consistently emphasized the importance of dialogue, de-escalation, and diplomacy as the only viable path toward resolving ongoing regional tensions.

The latest visit is seen as part of continued efforts to maintain engagement and support stability across the region.
