At least 42 journalists were killed in Pakistan over the previous four years as per statistics presented to the Senate by the information ministry.

According to the documents, 42 journalists were killed, and 15 of them were in Punjab, 11 in Sindh, 13 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), and three in Balochistan.

The Senate ordered the Ministry of Interior to present a thorough report on the assassinations of Pakistani journalists.

Senator Danesh Kumar disagrees with the reported death toll, claiming that at least 10 journalists have been murdered in Balochistan, not only three as previously reported by the Ministry of Information.

He asked, “What steps is the government taking to protect the Balochistan journalists?”

Senator Mushtaq Ahmed pointed out that no one has been taken into custody in connection with the assaults on the journalists Hamid Mir, Absar Alam, Asad Toor, and Matiullah Jan.

He continued by saying that if all of these journalists’ alleged attackers had been apprehended, Arshad Sharif would not have been made a martyr.

According to Senator Kamran Murtaza, journalists sacrifice their life in the pursuit of the truth. “The murderers will also be found,” he continued, “if it comes out who the deceased journalists were active against.”
