Attorney General Barrister Shahzad Elahi resigns

The Attorney General of Pakistan has resigned from the post.

According to media reports, Attorney General Shahzad Atta Elahi gave personal reasons for resigning from the post.

Barrister Shahzad Atta Elahi’s status and rank were equal to that of a federal minister.

The change occurred almost seven weeks after President Arif Alvi approved his appointment on February 2.

“In accordance with the authority granted by Article 100 (1) of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s 1973 Constitution, the president is pleased to appoint Barrister Shehzad Ata Elahi as AGP with the rank and status of the federal minister with immediate effect,” according to a notification released by the Ministry of Law and Justice last month.

The president “shall appoint a person, being a person eligible to be a judge of the Supreme Court, to be the AGP,” according to Article 100(1) of the Constitution.

Elahi, the grandson of the previous president Fazal Elahi Chaudhry, focuses mostly on civil, commercial, corporate, and constitutional disputes.
