Babar Azam: Record breaker, history maker

Becomes fastest, youngest to reach 7,000 T20 runs

The greens skipper, Babar Azam added another feather to his hat by being the fastest to surpass the 7000 run mark in T20 cricket. The energetic young man broke the record previously held by the universe boss, Chris Gayle.

Babar accomplished the milestone in his 187th inning during the National T20 cup being played in Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Babar walked onto the pitch requiring only 4 runs to break the record.

Azam surpassed West Indian batsman Chris Gayle’s record of 7,000 T20 runs, which he had reached in his 192nd inning.

Babar has been the star performer in all formats of the game but has been ruling the shortest format of the game. Earlier, Babar was the quickest to complete 2000 runs in the international arena.

T20Is have accounted for 2,204 of his 7,000 T20 runs. Babar Azam broke Virat Kohli’s record for the quickest 2,000 runs in T20 internationals in April of this year, defeating the Indian captain by four innings.

World gets excited when a nation known to dish out fearsome fast bowlers suddenly gives a technically sound and classy batsman out of nowhere. That’s Babar Azam for you. Babar has been breaking records for fun since his arrival in the international arena and it is said that the man does not follow records. The records follow him.

Babar Azam has played 61 T20Is with an average of 46.89 and an amazing strike rate of 130.64. In these 61 innings Babar has crossed the 50 mark 20 times and the hundred mark once against SA when he scored a magnificent innings of 122 to take Pakistan home.

Azam has been equally magnificent in domestic circles as well. Babar blasted his sixth T20 century of his career to set a new record for the most T20 centuries by a Pakistani batsman. Babar Azam has the best ratio of 50s/innings in T20 cricket among all the top batters on the globe, with 64 runs of 50 or more from 186 innings.
