Back to winter break

There are a number of things that can be done during the holidays if one wants to. The number one on the list, however, should be relaxing and having fun. All around the year people work hard at school and at their jobs. This break allows them to rejuvenate and enjoy the winter season to the fullest

It’s that time of the year again-winter vacation! I am out of town, out of country for a week, on a working break. I am writing these lines from a freezing point of London. By the start of the new year, I will be back in Pakistan.

I have fond memories of winter holidays.

The holidays always bring with them a festive vibe. In Pakistan, the winter season is a time to celebrate as people heave a sigh of relief after a long, scorching summer. Most people set the dates of their weddings and other celebrations in the winter, while others have fun with their friends at barbecues and new year’s parties. However, the winter break is not all about celebrating with friends and family; there are a lot of other things that one can do.

During the winter break, one can cozy up in front of the heater and read their favourite books while having a cup of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate. During the rest of the year, one seldom finds any time to get involved in such activities that require time and concentration. During the winters, some people prefer being by themselves and have the time of their lives by diving deep into stories. Others like to read self-help books to make positive changes in their life and some read about the world and its mysteries. Many also indulge in reading about politics, art and economics.

For many, reading seems like a tedious job. Students who are always amongst books prefer to stay away from them when they finally get a break. These people can enjoy their winter break by going out with their friends for lunch and dinners. Many cities in Pakistan also offer fun outdoor activities like go-karting which young people can enjoy during their break. If one resides in the cities where historical landmarks are found people can visit those in the cold months. Lahore has many historical places such as the Lahore Fort, Shalimar Gardens, Badshahi Mosque and other similar places. Hiran Minar and Jehangir’s Tomb can also be visited.

Similarly, this is the best time to visit the family and friends whom you have not paid a visit during the year.

The winter season can be fully enjoyed during the winter break by going to picnics with loved ones. Lots of parks offer the option of basking in the winter sun while having homemade treats. If one has a large group of friends, several games can be played at the picnic such as dodge the ball, cricket, football and others. We are living in the era of fog, so it is unlikely for most of us to find most of the sunny hours.

For those who like to stay at home, there are several options as well. People who are crafty can learn things like how to crochet a sweater, paint, make clay pots, watch movies, bake and cook. Pakistani summers are extreme and many people do not like to step into the kitchen for fun even if they enjoy cooking or baking, so they can easily fulfill their cooking or baking desires in the winters and try out new recipes.

There are a number of things that can be done during the holidays if one wants to. The number one on the list, however, should be relaxing and having fun. All around the year people work hard at school and at their jobs. This break allows them to rejuvenate and enjoy the winter season to the fullest. Therefore, people should make a cup of coffee, sit back and relax in whatever way that suits them best.
