Balochistan copter crash: Team of intelligence officers to probe propaganda campaign

A joint investigation team consisting of officers from Federal Investigation Agency, Intelligence Bureau and Inter-Services Intelligence has been formed for investigation of the malicious social media propaganda after the Balochistan helicopter crash that resulted in the martyrdom of six army personnel.

FIA Cyber Crime Additional Director General Muhammad Jafar, FIA Cyber Crime Wing North Director Dr. Waqar-ud-Din Syed, IB Deputy Director Waqar Nisar Chaudhry, Cyber Crime Wing Additional Director Ayaz Khan and Islamabad Assistant Director Imran Haider are included in the team.

Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) had already condemned the “highly unacceptable and regretful social media campaign”.

A press release was also issued by ISPR stating that the propaganda had caused immense pain, particularly to the families of martyrs.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had also condemned the propaganda on social media. In a tweet he had stated that the social media campaign ridiculing the sacrifices of martyrs was horrifying.

The Balochistan Assembly also passed a joint resolution paying tribute to the martyrs. It also expressed deepest grief over the tragic incident. Provincial ministers paid tribute to all six martyrs. They said that the negative propaganda was condemnable and there was no need of any foreign enemy in presence of such elements.

After the chopper crash, a section of social media activists launched an unacceptable campaign to advance their personal and political malice, which drew a strong reaction from people belonging to all walks of life, political leadership and the state institutions.
