Balochistan police arrest PTI Senator Azam Swati

Balochistan Police arrested PTI Senator Azam Swati on Friday and transferred him to Quetta in connection with the complaint filed against him for the contentious tweets he made against key military officers.

According to local media news, officials under the condition of anonymity revealed that the arrest was related to the several complaints that had been filed against the senator in Balochistan.

Earlier on Thursday, Azam Swati was sent to jail as part of a 14-day judicial remand in the case involving his controversial tweets that were directed at high military personnel.

Before the four-day physical remand was ended the Federal Investigation Agency (IFIA) submitted a request for a judicial remand in the court of Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Shabbir Bhatti.

The judicial judge granted the FIA’s motion during the hearing today and ordered Swati to appear on December 15.

The PTI senator has been hauled into detention earlier as well due to his controversial tweets. On October 13 FIA’s cybercrime team arrested Swati for reportedly making controversial assertions against government institutions including the army chief.

A district and sessions court in Islamabad had granted Swati post-arrest bail in exchange for a surety bond of Rs1 million.
