Banned ‘Javed Iqbal’ set to be opening film for UK Asian Film Festival

Pakistani feature film ‘Javed Iqbal: The Untold Story of a Serial Killer’ which was supposed to hit the cinema screens this year, but got unfortunately banned two days prior to its release, will be featured as the opening movie for this year’s UK Asian Film Festival all set to be held in the first week of the coming month.

The film will be premiered at BFI Southbank cinema at the 22nd edition of the festival, which is both a good and a bad news for Pakistanis, especially the cast and crew of the film whose hard-work failed to get a screening before the country’s own public.

Yasir Hussain, who has played the titular role in the film, expressed the latent disappointment in this apparently happy news by issuing a statement, the English translation of which is as follows:

“It is a matter of pride that the UK Asian Film Festival is treating our film with so much respect but it is equally saddening to see how we ourselves are never able to recognize our content and people.” “This Pakistani story got banned in Pakistan but you will get to see 5 Pakistani movies based on our culture,” he added sarcastically, hinting at the multiple rom-coms carrying item numbers to be released on Eid ul Fitr this year.
