US President Joe Biden announced new funds on Wednesday to support democracies throughout the world.

As per media reports, the development came in response to accusations that his administration had not made much headway in expanding human rights and democracy as a priority of its foreign policy.

At a second Conference for Democracy organized by the White House, Biden declared his intention to provide $690 million in financing to fight corruption, support free and fair elections, and advance technology that supports democratic governments.

Earlier, when he previously held such an event in 2021, he announced more than $400 million for programs of a similar nature.

“We’re turning the tide here. As we often say, we’re at an inflection point in history here, when the decisions we make today are going to affect the course of our world for the next several decades for certain,” Biden said.
