Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), asserted in Tandlianwala that his party truly represents the masses, urging the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to swiftly announce the date for the upcoming general elections.
Taking a swipe at his opponents, he debunked misconceptions about the PPP’s disinterest in Punjab politics and pledged to prove them wrong. Bilawal stressed the party’s dedication to addressing issues like inflation, unemployment, security, and upholding democracy.
On Friday, Mr. Bhutto-Zardari reiterated his call for the ECP to promptly announce the election date. Former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto addressed a press conference at Bilawal House Lahore following the PPP central executive committee meeting, where he conveyed concerns about a level playing field to co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
Emphasizing the PPP’s roots in Lahore, Bilawal rejected the notion of the party being confined to one province. He alleged a nexus between Saqib Nisar, General Faiz, and a specific political party during the 2018 elections. Additionally, he claimed that conspiracies involving Returning Officers (ROs), General Pasha, and former CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary were directed against the PPP in 2013.
Addressing the country’s economic situation, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari called for relief from soaring inflation and expensive electricity. He reiterated that elections are the sole solution to the country’s political and economic challenges, urging the ECP to set an election date.
Furthermore, he advocated for declaring flood-affected areas as calamities and expressed sympathy for minorities affected by the Jardanwala tragedy. Bilawal hinted that discussions about alliances or cooperation with other political parties would follow the election announcement.
