Body found at PPP MPA Jam Awais’s farmhouse

Police say Nazim Sajawal Jokhio allegedly tortured to death

In a bizarre turn of events, a man’s body was found at a farmhouse belonging to Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP’s) Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Jam Awais in Karachi’s Malir area.

Police and the victim’s relatives said the man, Nazim Sajawal Jokhio, was allegedly tortured to death.

Memon Goth Station House Officer (SHO) Khalid Abbasi said on Wednesday that the tortured body was found at Awais’s farmhouse.

The SHO went on to add that the victim seemed to have died after being beaten severely during a scuffle at the Jam House.

So far, according to Abbasi, two suspects have been arrested in the case.

Nazim’s body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for the completion of legal formalities.

Police were reportedly waiting for the victim’s relatives to file a case so that legal proceedings could be formally initiated.

Meanwhile, the victim’s brother Afzal Jokhio accused Awais and Member of National Assembly (MNA) Jam Abdul Karim of being involved in his brother’s alleged murder.

He and other relatives made the allegation on the basis of a video, which they said Nazim recorded. The video showed Nazim complaining that he had been tortured and threatened over a clip he shot of the ‘guests’ of some influential persons hunting animals in his village near Thatta’s Jungshahi town.

The incident enraged Nazim’s relatives and other members of the Jokhio community from Malir and adjoining areas as they staged a protest and blocked the National Highway near Gulshan-i-Hadeed.

The protesters alleged that the victim was murdered at the behest of influential persons and referred to the hunting video recorded by Nazim.

Taking notice of the incident, opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh urged security officials to ensure the arrest of persons involved in the murder.

After the media statement by the bereaved family, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed the police to lodge a first information report (FIR).

Following the directives, Memon Goth police registered a case on Afzal’s behalf. It was filed against Awais and his accomplices, two of whom are yet to be arrested.
