Buzdar’s tenure comes to an end

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has accepted the resignation of Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar on Friday.

After the acceptance of the resignation of the chief minister of Punjab, the Punjab Cabinet has also been dissolved.

The governor of Punjab has convened a meeting on April 2 to elect a new leader of the house. A meeting of the Punjab Assembly has been convened on Saturday at 11:00am.

In the order wherein the governor accepted the resignation, he wrote that he was summoning the 40th session of the Punjab Assembly under Article 109 of the constitution.

The order added that the purpose of summoning the house was to elect the new chief minister of Punjab under Article 130 of the constitution.

Usman Buzdar had presented his resignation to the premier on March 28 the same day lawmakers of the provincial assembly submitted a no-trust move against him to the secretary of the provincial assembly.

At the same time, the PTI had announced Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s Chaudhry Pervez Elahi as its candidate for the chief ministership of the provincial assembly.

The move to oust Buzdar on part of the provincial opposition came as a similar move was underway in the federal legislature.

The PML-Q, had earlier according to reports, shown a tendency towards the opposition before it confirmed that it would be supporting the PTI.
