Canada announces to provide training to Ukrainian pilots and soldiers

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that Canada would assist Ukraine in its fight with Russia in any way that is necessary, including by providing training for Ukrainian pilots and soldiers.

At a news conference, Trudeau said, “we’re always looking to do more” in terms of support for Ukraine. He claimed to have spoken with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy during the G7 leaders’ summit in Hiroshima.

This past weekend, Trudeau and other G7 leaders—, which also include the presidents of the United States, Japan, Germany, Britain, France, and Italy—sent a strong message to Russia about their support for Ukraine in its crisis.

Trudeau responded that Canada would continue to train soldiers and that this might potentially include training pilots when questioned about training for the Ukrainian military.

President Joe Biden and other top American officials on Friday briefed the G7 leaders on Washington’s backing for joint partner training programs for Ukrainian F-16 pilots.
