CCPO to criminals: be civil or leave the city, forever!

Vows to control crime rate by using community policing

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Additional IG Ghulam Mahmood Dogar has once again issued a stern warning to gangsters, miscreants, squatter mafia and other criminals to stop their activities or else leave the city forever.

The CCPO said that Lahore is a city of civilized people and there is absolutely no room for individual or organized criminals. Dogar has reiterated his resolve to make all-out efforts, including preemptive and preventive measures, to control crime and serve humanity with more dedication and zeal, using smart and community-based policing as key factors to meet the ongoing challenges of new trends of crimes.

The institutional structure of different units of Lahore Police has been strengthened to improve the performance of the force. According to the facts and figures for the month of August for the eradication of crime, Lahore police arrested as many as 6,671 people involved in different crimes. It arrested 440 members of 179 active dacoit gangs and recovered cash and valuables worth more than Rs10 crore and 29 lakhs from them. Police recovered 17 cars, 520 motorcycles, 27 other vehicles, one laptop and 304 mobile phones as well from the criminals.

During the grand action against illegal weapons in the city, Lahore Police arrested 545 criminals and registered cases against them in different police stations of the city. Police recovered three Kalashnikovs, 29 rifles, 18 guns, 466 pistols and revolvers and more than 3,000 bullets along with cartridges from these criminals. During action against drug peddlers, police arrested as many as 711 and registered FIRs against them during the previous month and recovered from them more than 1 kg heroin, 330 kg of charas, more than 50 grams of ICE and 5,617 litres of liquor.

Similarly, Lahore Police arrested 307 criminals involved in gambling and registered 95 cases against them recovering more than Rs9 million in gambling money from them. Moreover, 3,562 proclaimed and targeted offenders and court absconders along with 311 proclaimed offenders (POs) of ‘A’ category, 2,218 POs of ‘B’ category, 1,033 targeted offenders (TOs) whereas 1,474 court absconders (CAs) were arrested last month. Lahore Police also arrested 281 accused for violating Kite Flying Act and recovered more than 10,000 kites as well as 400 rolls of string from them.

As many as 25 accused of aerial firing were also arrested and 38 cases were registered against them this year. As many as 1,355 law breakers were arrested under National Action Plan (NAP) last month in different violations. Accordingly, 79 accused were arrested in violation of Security of Vulnerable Establishments Ordinance, 188 in violation of Sound System Regulation Ordinance, 537 in violation of Information of Temporary Residents Ordinance, 545 in Arms (Amendments) Ordinance, 04 in Prohibition of Expressing Matters on Walls (Amendments) Ordinance whereas two accused were arrested for hate material.
