Chaman attack deserves strongest condemnation, says PM Shehbaz

FO also condemned the firing incident on Pakistan's behalf

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has condemned the Chaman border attack and demanded the Taliban interim Afghan government make sure that such incidents are not repeated.

Last night cross-border firing on the Chaman border took the lives of six people while 17 gained serious injuries.

PM Shehbaz early in the morning in the tweet stated that the Unprovoked shelling & fire by Afghan Border Forces at Chaman resulted in the martyrdom of several Pakistani citizens & injuring more than a dozen is unfortunate & deserves the strongest condemnation.

Earlier, Foreign Office also condemned the firing incident saying that this is not in keeping with the brotherly ties between the two countries.

Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated claimed that the Afghan border guards at Chaman are engaged in unprovoked and indiscriminate firing against the civilian population in Chaman.

According to the FO’s press release, the Afghan authorities had been reminded that similar instances must not occur again and that those involved must face the strictest possible measures.

The representative also stated that both sides are accountable for safeguarding bordering residents.

According to officials, the shooting started after some intruders from the other side attempted to cut a fence close to the border settlement of Lala Mohammad.

The border was shut down as a result of the shooting however; it was reopened to traffic and pedestrians within 30 minutes.
