Federal Bureau of Investigation announced that China has stolen more American data than any other nation.

FBI revealed the fact at the US House of Representatives committee.

FBI Christopher Wray stated that China’s vast hacking program is the world’s largest, and they have stolen more Americans’ personal and business data than every other nation combined.

Wray raised the issue of information hacking while testifying at the annual hearing on global threats held by the House Homeland Security Committee.

He specifically mentioned the Chinese social media platform TikTok and its parent firm ByteDance.

While expressing his concerns regarding TikTok he stated that the Chinese govt could use the platform to control data collection because of its large audience or can control the algorithm of the application that can be used to influence operations.

Not only the FBI but other government officials also expressed their concerns regarding TikTok and question its ability to protect US-based user information through Beijing.

Wray also added that the Chinese app TikTok’s actions need to be discussed in a classified briefing.

However, according to TikTok, US user data is not kept in China where the law permits the government to compel businesses to turn over internal data.

The New York Times stated that the Biden administration is apparently close to reaching an agreement with TikTok that would allow it to continue functioning in the US under stricter security controls.
