Civil society irked by FIRs against Ranipur activists

Ranipur police on the directions of Khairpur SSP on Saturday registered FIRs against as many as 215 known and unknown members of the civil society, rights activists and relatives of kidnapped Hindu minor boy Adesh Kumar under the anti-terrorism act and different sections of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The FIR was registered against eminent national Dr. Niaz Kalani, rights activist Punhal Sario, Fakir Imdad Mangi and others. On Friday, a large number of people gathered in Ranipur town, where they staged a demonstration on the National Highway demanding the early recovery of Adesh Kumar, who was abducted a few weeks back.

The leaders had made serious allegations against Khairpur SSP in the wake of the claims of other police officials regarding the recovery of the minor boy. The officials, only a few days back, had claimed that the Hindu boy had been recovered by police after an encounter with the kidnappers.

Meanwhile, the rights activists, members of the civil society and others reacted strongly over the registration of the FIRs against peaceful protesters and called for stern action against the SSP. They alleged that the cop had a habit of implicating political workers, journalists and rights activists in FIRs on fake and fabricated charges.
