COAS General Asim Munir arrives in UK on 5-day official visit

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir has arrived in the United Kingdom on a highly significant visit at the request of the British Ministry of Defence to address security-related strategic matters.

According to local media reports, General Munir will be accompanied by senior military commanders.

They arrived in the United Kingdom late Saturday night.

The visit is considered critical in light of the growing issue of Taliban militancy and the situation in South Asia. General Asim Munir is making his first trip to the United Kingdom since taking over as Pakistan’s powerful army leader at the end of November last year.

According to media reports, both countries place a high value on the visit. The army commander will speak at the 5th joint UK-Pakistan stability conference, which will be held at Wilton Park from February 5-8.

Wilton Park is an executive agency established by the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office to promote open government interaction.

The symposium, co-hosted by UK Army Chief General Sir Patrick Sanders, is titled “Regional Stability in South Asia: the Return of Geopolitics and Other Challenges.”

The seminar will center on the impact of the Ukraine war on the EU, the United Kingdom, and Pakistan.

The COAS will pay a visit to the British military headquarters and meet with top military commanders, including the UK army chief.

According to a report, Gen Munir will also speak to a security think-tank at the end of his stay.
