COAS inaugurates Tunneling Institute of Pakistan

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa inaugurated the Tunneling Institute of Pakistan (TIP) in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.

The TIP is aimed at promoting professional tunneling expertise, including research and development and synergize tunneling resources, an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release said.

It is only sixth such facility in the world which has been completed and operationalized within 10 months by the FWO.

It will provide a platform to encompass tunneling education through both tunneling academia and industry experts.

Earlier, Engineer-in-Chief Lieutenant General Moazzam Ejaz and FWO Director General Major General Kamal Azfar received General Bajwa on his arrival at the institute. Later, the army chief visited the National Emergency Operation Centre where he was apprised of the latest polio campaigns conducted in the country and challenges being faced.

According to the military’s media wing, the army chief said that additional manpower and resources should be provided to polio teams to ensure a safe and secure environment in sensitive locations to achieve the objective of a polio-free Pakistan.
