COAS underscores importance of peace initiatives in Afghanistan

KSA officials acknowledge professionalism of Pakistan's armed forces, vow to enhance cooperation

Underscoring the importance of peace and reconciliation initiatives in Afghanistan, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday called for swiftly devising an institutional mechanism for channeling humanitarian assistance to the war-torn country in order to avert a looming humanitarian catastrophe.

The COAS said this during a meeting with Saudi Military Adviser to Minister of Defence Major General Talal Abdullah Al-Otaibi at the General Headquarters (GHQ), the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

The two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, regional security, the current situation in Afghanistan and defence relations between the two countries. General Bajwa said Pakistan valued its historical and brotherly relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and acknowledged its unique place in the Islamic world.

The visiting dignitary acknowledged the professionalism of the Pakistani armed forces and vowed to enhance cooperation in various fields. He also appreciated Pakistan’s role in Afghan situation, special efforts for border management and role in regional stability. Separately, a 25-member delegation of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia visited the Foreign Office.

The delegation was led by Brigadier General Alqahtani, according to the Foreign Office.

In the briefing session, Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood and Foreign Office Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar highlighted key aspects of Pakistan’s foreign policy, including the commitment to forge deeper cooperation with Saudi Arabia.
