Sindh caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqir has said, “It is the job of the Election Commission to conduct elections. Our job will be to help them; this will be our role in the election. The effort will be to ensure that elections can be held according to the constitution and law.”
On his nomination, he said, “This is an important responsibility, especially the difficulties that people are facing. Efforts will be made to reduce the suffering of the people and maintain the supremacy of law.
Sindh Opposition Leader Rana Ansar said that after consultation with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, it has been agreed to nominate Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqir as caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh.
“The name was from both sides, it was agreed upon through mutual consultation,” she said, adding, “Hopefully, this is a name that will prove to be good for the government and people of Sindh and the elections will be transparent.”
PPP leader Murtaza Wahab confirmed that the notification for the nomination will be issued soon.
Maqbool Baqir was appointed as a judge of the Sindh High Court in 2002 and a judge of the Supreme Court in 2015. He retired as a Supreme Court judge last year.
Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori signed a summary to appoint Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqir as caretaker chief minister of Sindh.
Kamran Tessori approved the appointment of Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqir as the caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh under Article 224 (1-A) of the Constitution.
