President Dr. Arif Alvi has said that the constitution doesn’t allow consultation on the appointment of the army chief.
He said that he wanted a transparent investigation into the murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif so that his family members could be satisfied and they could get justice.
President Arif Alvi called on senior journalists and civil society representatives at the Governor House Lahore and discussed matters of the current political scenario along with the investigation of Arshad Sharif’s murder.
President Alvi said that it was very sad that Arshad was tortured. He said that Arshad had written him a letter that he had a threat to his life on which he had forwarded the matter to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
He said that 24 percent of the people have been suffering from mental stress. He said that the government and the opposition were looking at the judiciary and he was hopeful that the government and the opposition will come to a conclusion.
The President also said that there was a lot of progress in the countries where institutions were strengthened and he was hopeful that the situation in Pakistan will improve.
He further said that free and fair elections were very important in the country. He said that he has talked about electronic voting machines but it was not appreciated. He added that we should make full use of the capabilities of the youth and he will continue his efforts within the scope of the constitution.
