Cotton production jumps 81pc to 6.3m till November 1

The country’s cotton production has surged by 81 percent on a year-on-year basis to 6.3 million bales.

According to Arif Habib Limited, the cotton arrival in factories across the country till November 1, 2021, remained 6,257,000 bales against 3,452,400 bales of cotton. Earlier till October 15, 2021, the cotton arrival in factories across the country remained 5,208,300 bales.

According to the data, both Punjab and Sindh have reported a substantial increase in cotton production. Cotton production in Punjab as of November 1 was 2,935,100 bales compared to 1,728,300 bales till November 01, 2020, showing an increase of 70 percent. Earlier till October 15, 2021, the cotton arrival in factories across the province remained 2,266,300 bales.

Similarly, cotton production in Sindh as of November 01 was 3,321,900 bales compared to 1,724,100 bales till November 01, 2020, showing an increase of 93 percent. Earlier till October 15, 2021, the cotton arrival in factories across the province remained 2,942,000 bales.

Weeks ago, the Ministry of National Food Security and Research said that the revised cotton production target of 9.3 million bales set for 2021-22 was expected to be met or even be exceeded. The Cotton Crop Assessment Committee (CCAC) in September 2021 had revised downward the cotton production target by 19.5% – from 10.5 million bales set for 2021-22 to 8.46 million bales, after missing the sowing target by 13.4 percent.
