Court issues bailable warrants for Meesha Shafi

Judicial magistrate issues arrest warrants of co-accused Maham Javed in defamation suit moved by singer and actor Ali Zafar

A judicial magistrate on Wednesday issued bailable arrest warrants for singer-cum-actress Meesha Shafi directing the police to ensure her presence before the court.

Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Murtaza Virk passed the order while hearing the defamation suit filed by actor and singer Ali Zafar against Meesha Shafi and others.

The court also issued bailable arrest warrants of Maham Javed – the co-accused in the said case. The judge remarked that if the counsel of Ali Zafar, who was not present today, did not argue on the next date of hearing, the court would decide the matter only by hearing the arguments of the prosecutor.

“The case will be decided by hearing the arguments of the prosecutor if the counsel of Ali Zafar doesn’t turn up for arguments at the next hearing,” remarked the judge.

Actor Iffat Omar, Faizan Raza, Haseem-uz-Zaman, Fareeha Ayub, Ali Gul, Lena Ghani and others appeared before the court and marked their attendance in the said case.

FIA had submitted its investigation report before the court against eight suspects including Meesha Shafi over charges of running a defamatory campaign against singer Ali Zafar. The FIA had charged the suspects for causing damage to the repute of the actor on social media by alleging that he was involved in sexual harassment of Meesha Shafi. The agency had asked the court to take action against the accused under the law.
