Pakistan is witnessing rising COVID cases as the positivity ratio hits its highest after almost four-and-a-half months.

Pakistan had seen a positivity ratio of 4.92 percent on February 18. In the past 24 hours, the COVID positivity ratio has been recorded at 4.69 percent.

According to the stats of the National Institute of Health (NIH), one death and 805 positive cases were reported on July 6. The positivity rate was recorded at 4.69 percent whereas 168 patients were in critical care. The NIH has said that a total of 17,150 tests were taken in the last 24 hours.

According to health experts, the escape mutations present in two sub-variants, BA-4 and BA-5 of Omicron variant have been causing a surge in COVID-19 cases in Pakistan. Experts have claimed that even the vaccinated or already infected with the virus were also being infected, saying that so far the cause of any severe diseases among vaccinated could not be concluded as no evidence was available.

On Tuesday, the national Command and Operations Centre issued guidelines in wake of the rising wave of viruses and the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. Implementation of SOPs was announced to stop the increase in virus spread.
