CPEC will not be affected by political situation: China

Amid all the political turmoil in the country, China’s acting Consul General Lahore Peng Zhengwu has said that China believed that a country’s internal matters should not be interfered into.

While speaking to local media, Zhengwu said that cooperation between Pakistan and China, along with the development and work on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor would not be affected by the political situation. He hoped that Pakistani political parties would work together in uplifting the nation.

He also said that China never interfered in any country’s domestic issues, adding that no matter how the events turned, China would always be a steady friend to Pakistan.

Earlier, Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi met his Pakistani counterpart on March 30 and said that small and medium-sized countries should not become tools or ‘victims’ of the great power game.

The statement comes amidst rising political instability and uncertainty as (interim) Prime Minister Imran Khan dodged a no-confidence motion on April 3 through a controversial ruling by National Assembly deputy speaker Qasim Suri that has received a massive backlash from the opposition.
