Criticism of POL price increases: Suggest alternative: govt to opp

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Thursday called out the opposition for “unjustified criticism” of the increase in petroleum products’ prices.

In a tweet, he said the opposition parties were criticizing the hike in petroleum products’ prices but failed to provide an alternative which, he believed, was the main aspect of any criticism. He asked the opposition whether the government should not increase the oil prices if they jumped to $95 per barrel from $60 in the international market. He said the opposition, in such a scenario, should bring forth a “magic lamp,” if it had any.

Also, Fawad Hussain on Thursday said the construction work on Islamabad-Kharian Motorway would commence soon as its tender has been floated. In a meeting with office-bearers of Jhelum Press Club, he said the motorists would be able to reach Jhelum from Islamabad in just 50 minutes after the project’s completion and added it was the third project announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan for the people of Jhelum.

He said Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced mega projects for Jhelum, including Lillah-Jhelum dual carriageway and Jalalpur Irrigation Project, after a delay of fifty years. After the completion of the dual carriageway, it would emerge as the most important highway in the country, connecting Karachi, south Punjab and central Punjab to Azad Kashmir.

He said Jhelum was included in the first phase of local government elections in Punjab and urged party workers to get ready for giving Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaaf a clean sweep in the district. Fawad said the digital lab and media hall at Jhelum Press Club would be completed soon, keeping in view the innovations in digital technology. The government, he said, has provided health cards to the journalists in Jhelum under the PM Health Card Program, enabling them to avail health facilities of up to Rs1 million. He said government would ensure availability of easy loans for Jhelum journalists under PM’s Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme.

Separately, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Political Communication, Dr Shahbaz Gill on Thursday said that those who had become “monarchs” after looting the masses are at large today. In response to statement of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz, Dr Gill said “certified counterfeiters” were delivering speeches on democracy to save their illicit family wealth.

He said as prime minister in his meetings with foreign leaders, Maryam’s father (Nawaz Sharif) let down the country as he used to read written notes on small pages.

“Her father is notorious all over the world for his corruption,” he said. Dr Gill said those who used the parliament for corruption should be ashamed of talking about democracy. “Covering family politics and monarchy by using the name of democracy is hypocrisy.”
