Chief Secretary Punjab Kamran Ali Afzal hosted his own farewell dinner on Thursday, which was attended by all the administrative secretaries, commissioners, subordinate staff and senior police officers.
Political functionaries were not invited to the dinner. The chief secretary had made all the arrangements in his private capacity. The dinner was specially attended by former chief secretaries as well. A senior official said that there was an exclusive discussion regarding the ongoing tussle between the bureaucracy and the political elite. Muhammad Khan Bhatti as the Principal Secretary and the appointment of new Chief Secretary also remained under discussion. It was also guessed that Senior Member Board of Revenue Zahid Akhtar Zaman, who also served as Additional Chief Secretary in South Punjab Secretariat, may be a strong candidate for Chief Secretary Punjab followed by Abdullah Khan Sumbal who is currently serving as Chairman Planning and Development Board. Zaman had good links with PTI leadership, the officer claimed. However, the officers were of the opinion, as one of the participants said, that the tussle between Punjab and federal will continue on the CS appointment.
