CS, IG face the axe for ‘neutrality’

The Punjab government is likely to change Chief Secretary Kamran Ali Afzal and Inspector General of Police Rao Sardar.

Sources say that both are being transferred for their failure to play a role in the continuing political crisis, which sees the government on the back foot. Three names are under consideration for the top slot of the Chief Secretary’s Office. Abdullah Sumbal, Yousuf Naseem Khokhar and Tahir Khursheed are among those being considered for the position.

Sources say that Khursheed may be the most favourite. Kamran Afzal is the fifth chief secretary in the tenure of the PTI government in Punjab. Meanwhile, Fayaz Dev, Amir Zulfiqar and Inam Ghani have been nominated for the post of IGP. It should be noted that the current IGP Punjab, Rao Sardar, was posted on September 7. If he is replaced, it would be the eighth replacement in the past four years.
