Cybercrime in Pakistan increased by 83% in last three years

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to present proposals at the following meeting to enhance the performance of its cyber wing after learning from the agency that cybercrime had increased by 83% over the previous three years.

The panel, under the leadership of Mir Khan Muhammad Jamali, expressed extreme concern regarding the smear campaigns and negative propaganda against institutions, journalists, and politicians that are being run on social media, as well as the harassment of elected officials and their families.

The committee placed a strong emphasis on the development of the employees working in the FIA’s cybercrime wing.

It also made the urgent recommendation that the federal government hire permanent, capable, and experienced officials there while also ensuring the availability of the required resources.

According to media reports, MNA Javeria Zafar raised grave worry about the cybercrime system at the discussion, claiming that offenders are contacted, intimidated, and then released.
