Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will travel to New York from Beijing to participate in a high-level United Nations Security Council open debate, according to the Foreign Office.

The session, scheduled for May 26, will focus on maintaining international peace and security, with an emphasis on strengthening the UN-centered global system and upholding the UN Charter.

The debate is being held under the rotating presidency of the Security Council for May 2026, chaired by China, and led by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Pakistan has welcomed the initiative, describing it as an important effort to reinforce multilateral diplomacy and global cooperation.

During his visit, Ishaq Dar is also expected to attend the Group of Friends on Global Governance meeting on May 28, which will focus on reforms in global governance and collective responses to international challenges.

On the sidelines, he will hold bilateral meetings with foreign ministers and senior United Nations officials to discuss regional and global issues.

The Foreign Office reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to multilateral engagement, saying Islamabad will continue to play an active role in promoting peace, development, and international cooperation.

Dar is currently in China with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and will depart for the United States following his engagements in Beijing
