At least 24 passengers were killed and several others injured after a passenger coach plunged into a deep ravine in the Dhana Sar area on the road linking Zhob and Dera Ismail Khan on Friday, officials said.

According to Sherani Deputy Commissioner Wali Kakar, the bus was travelling from Quetta to Peshawar when it lost control and fell into the ravine. The coach was carrying 35 passengers at the time of the accident.

Eight injured passengers were rescued from the wreckage and shifted to nearby hospitals, where they are receiving medical treatment. Rescue workers continued operations at the scene despite the challenging mountainous terrain, with efforts focused on evacuating victims and completing relief activities.

District authorities said emergency response teams were deployed immediately after the crash, while local officials are closely monitoring the rescue operation. The final death toll is expected to be confirmed once recovery efforts are completed.

Health authorities in Balochistan have declared an emergency at nearby hospitals to ensure prompt treatment for the injured as rescue and recovery operations continue.
