At least 76 people have been killed and 1,200 are being held as Iran continues to protest for Mahsa Amini on the 10th day. The death toll has risen due to the Iranian government crackdown on demonstrators, according to a Norway-based Iran Human Rights (IHR) NGO.
As per a media report, IHR Director Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam stated, “We call on the international community to decisively and unitedly take practical steps to stop the killing and torture of protesters.”
Moghaddam further added that the group also obtained video footage and death certificates that showed “live ammunition being directly fired at protesters”.
IHR officials also stated that protests are happening in a total of 14 provinces of Iran whereas Mazandaran province on the Caspian Sea shows the highest number of deaths 25. IHR also said, “Most families have been forced to quietly bury their loved ones at night and pressured against holding public funerals”.
“Many families were threatened with legal charges if they publicized their deaths,” as per a report.
Earlier on 26 September, hostilities between the Islamic Republic and Western nations rose as Germany called up the Iranian envoy, just one day after the European Union protested the “widespread and disproportionate use of force” and Tehran summoned the British and Norwegian ambassadors, according to a media report.
Anti-regime protests against the brutal death of Mahsa Amini are accelerating even after 10 days after the incident.
Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish woman, was arrested and tortured by Iranian moral police for allegedly violating the country’s strict rules on hijab headscarves and modest clothing, with her subsequent death in custody leading to protests in Iran.
