Nawaz Sharif has said that the difficult decisions taken by the incumbent coalition government were the cause of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) defeat in the Punjab by-polls.

According to media reports, the PML-N supremo stated the cause of his party’s defeat to be the “difficult decisions” taken by the coalition government.

Unofficial results indicate Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) clinched 15 seats as opposed to PML-N’s four in the Punjab’s by-polls on Sunday.

Media reports have also said that Nawaz Sharif talked with the PM Shehbaz Sharif and CM Punjab Hamza Shehbaz regarding the outcome of the by-polls and the future strategy of the party. An emergency meeting of PML-N leaders has also been called.

Nawaz Sharif has also called the Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman of JUI-F as well. The three leaders during the telephonic conversation discussed the results of by-elections and the political situation of the country.

On Sunday, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz had said that the defeat should be accepted and that winning and losing were part of politics. She added that efforts should be made to overcome the weaknesses.
